Nightly Observing Program at Kitt Peak Visitor Center
Directions to Kitt Peak
Give yourself 90 minutes to get here from downtown Tucson.
From Tucson, find Ajo Way (Highway 86) and head west (toward the setting sun). Pass Ryan Airfield and Three Points. About 40 miles from Tucson, turn left onto Highway 386 (signs will say “Kitt Peak”).
Drive 12 miles up the mountain, until you see a “giant concrete donut.” with a mural painted on it. Turn left and park.
The grounds are closed after 4 pm, so walk straight to the Visitor Center, behind the “giant concrete donut.” Don’t wander off! See also, this map of the grounds.
It often gets cold on the mountain, so bring warm clothing. Being cold will prevent you from fully enjoying the program.
