GROUP TOUR PROGRAMS

Thank you for your interest in bringing your group to Kitt Peak. We have two programs which are available for your group of ten or more—our ever popular Nightly Observing Program and daytime guided tours of the telescopes. Below you will find a description and cost for each. We are fairly flexible, so if you are looking for a special program, please give us a call and we will see what we can do. Our number one goal is to make sure you have an enjoyable, educational and safe experience on the mountain.

Nightly Observing Program Group Rates (minimum10, maximum 100)
Groups must make a single payment for the group rate to apply

The Nightly Observing Program is an extremely popular program and books well in advance, so please make your reservations at least 6 months prior to your desired date.

This is a weather dependent program. In the event of a cloudy night, the program still goes on with hands-on activities. In the event of dangerous weather the program will be canceled for safety reasons associated with the mountain. Tour guides must call the visitor center on that day just prior to 2 pm to see if the program is a go (520-318-8726).

Most of the program is conducted outside. Mountain temperatures are usually 15 to 20 degrees cooler than Tucson. So please dress very warm in layered clothing. Blankets, hats, and gloves are recommended. Observatory domes are NOT heated but the Visitor center is.

Guided Day Tours(10 or more)

Docent led telescope tours are available for a small charge. Admission to the Visitor Center is Free. No food or services are available during the day. A picnic area with restrooms and water is available by reservation.

Kitt Peak is close to 7,000 feet in elevation. People with respiratory or heart problems should use caution. Most of the public telescopes are not fully accessible.
