Venus

Because Venus orbits the Sun interior to the Earth, it exhibits phases such as the crescent seen above. Mercury also goes through phases, but is a bit more difficult to see through the telescope. When this image was taken, Venus was preparing to transit in front of the Sun, or just leaving from the front of the Sun.
