This planetary nebula floats in the foreground of the inner spiral arm of our galaxy. The striking color contrast between the red rimmed sphere of the nebula and multitude of extincted background stars makes for an interesting composition. Note that there is a gradient of stars in the image with many more weighted towards the left side of the picture. A quick glance at the more zoomed out view from the Digitized Sky Survey (left) reveals this nebula is in the foreground of a large swath (cloud) of dust that itself blocks the light of what lies beyond. Click on the image above to see this nebula a bit more closely.
