Equipment

Meade 16in LX200 telescope operating at f/10
SBIG ST8E CCD camera with color filter wheel

L R G B color production was used to create this image.

Luminance = 45 minutes binned 1x1
Red = 10 minutes binned 2x2
Green = 10 minutes binned 2x2
Blue = 20 minutes binned 2x2

  • Two iterations of CCDSharp deconvolution were applied to this image.
  • This is the most southern object that is possible for the Visitor Center Observatory to image (at -37 degrees in declination). This image was timed to be exposed just as the object was transiting the meridian. In fact, for most of the image, less than %80 of the aperature was used. (the other fraction being occulted by the wall)
  • Given its low altitude in the sky, a raw FWHM of 2.4" is very reasonable.
