NGC 1190

Each of the fuzzy football shaped objects in this image is an elliptical galaxy. Unlike spiral galaxies, these oblate spheres of stars orbit the central mass of the galaxy not unlike a mass of insects (each and every way). These galaxies are over 100 million light years away.

Meade 16in LX200 telescope operating at f/10

SBIG ST8E CCD camera with color filter wheel

LRGB color production was used to create this image.

The AO unit was used for this image.

The seeing was very poor (greater than 2").

Luminance = 80 minutes binning 1x1

Red = 20 minutes binning 3x3

Green = 20 minutes binning 3x3

Blue = 40 minutes binning 3x3
