PK205+14.1: The Medusa Nebula

The Medusa Nebula is a very ancient planetary nebula in the constellation of Gemini. Note that the inner bubble still has hints of blue and green structure, indicating that the central star (not sure which one) may still be hot and making the gas flouresce.

Meade 16in LX200 telescope operating at f/6.3
SBIG ST7E CCD camera with color filter wheel

L R G B color production was used to create this image.

L = 48 minutes binned 1x1
Red = 20 minutes binned 3x3
Green = 20 minutes binned 3x3
Blue = 40 minutes binned 3x3

  • The faintness of this object make many of the stellar artifacts more pronounced upon display.
