Of the set Abell 39, , PK 164+31.1, and the Medusa nebula , the nebula shown here is one of the dimmest of the well-known faint planetary nebulae. In this image the two interesting details are the very bright blue (hot!) central star and the VERY faint crown of red nebulosity above the sphere.

Equipment

Meade 16in LX200 telescope operating at f/6.3
SBIG ST8E CCD camera with color filter wheel

L R G B color production was used to create this image.

Luminance = 120 minutes binned 1x1
Red = 30 minutes binned 3x3
Green = 30 minutes binned 3x3
Blue = 60 minutes binned 3x3

  • The color information was obtained by Ron Chandos and Martin De Wet.
  • The seeing was VERY poor during the acquisition of the the above.
