Introduction

The Kitt Peak Visitor Center offers an Advanced Observing Program (AOP) geared towards anyone with an interest in observing the night sky using a high quality telescope or using our state-of-the-art instruments. No previous experience in astronomy is necessary. You can observe at the world's largest optical observatory under some of North America's finest skies.

Guests who participate in this program are treated as visiting astronomers with complete access to the Visitor Center's considerable resources. Observe from an excellent site, dine with other astronomers, and, above all, enjoy exploring the universe.

Our visual program offers hands-on use of one of our telescopes with an experienced guide and a variety of high quality eyepieces, digital cameras, and webcams. You can expect to not only see some great sights but also take home some great images of the best objects in the night sky.

Our CCD imaging program uses a Santa Barbara Instruments ST-6303E CCD camera to take beautiful high-resolution color CCD images of nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies, or you can use the CCD camera to take wide field images of the night sky.

If you are interested in making a reservation for our AOP, please use our on-line Reservation Request Form. Gift Certificates are available; call 520-318-8726.

We look forward to seeing you beneath the skies of Kitt Peak.
