George Jacoby, Interim Program Head

Mission: to support and encourage research by the NOAO scientific staff and the US community of astronomers by providing telescope time, equipment, and funding to enable a scientifically productive environment.

Roles and Responsibilities: The Office of Science assumes the following responsibilities as its highest priorities. Details are given under the headings to the left.

  • Ranks proposals for telescope time submitted by the community (the TAC)

  • Schedules and manages promotion, tenure, and post-tenure reviews of the NOAO scientific staff

  • Provides resources in support of the research efforts of the NOAO scientific staff

  • Engages the US community of astronomers to understand how NOAO can best fulfill their observational needs

  • The Program Head serves as a representative for the scientific staff to the NOAO Director
