Mission: to support and encourage research by the NOAO scientific staff and the US community of astronomers by providing telescope time, equipment, and funding to enable a scientifically productive environment.
Roles and Responsibilities: The Office of Science assumes the following responsibilities as its highest priorities. Details are given under the headings to the left.

Ranks proposals for telescope time submitted by the community (the TAC)

Schedules and manages promotion, tenure, and post-tenure reviews of the NOAO scientific staff

Provides resources in support of the research efforts of the NOAO scientific staff

Engages the US community of astronomers to understand how NOAO can best fulfill their observational needs

The Program Head serves as a representative for the scientific staff to the NOAO Director
