Subject: [vsnet-alert 2900] SGRnova1999: examination of Sandage survey plate
SGRnova1999:
I have examined the B,UV survey plate from the Sandage Two-color Survey
of the Galactic Plane which is coincident with SGRnova1999. Using the
CCDV image of the nova and field stars obtained by R. Zissell as a guide
(provided by the AAVSO), no image at the position of the nova was detectable.
Plates in this survey typically extend to a limiting magnitude of B~20. The
plate coincident with the reported nova position was taken with the Palomar
48-in (1.2m) Oschin Schmidt telescope on 27 June 1970. Additionally, no
sources exhibiting an excess in U-B were noted within a radius of 2.5 arcmin
of the nova.
Additional information regarding the Sandage survey may be found at
the WWW site devoted to the survey, cf.
