NASA to Renovate Cloudcroft Facility (1Sep94) (from NSO, NOAO Newsletter No. 39, 1 September 1994) An agreement has been reached for the National Solar Observatory to renovate the Cloudcroft 48" telescope facility to house a 3 meter mercury mirror telescope. NASA owns the telescope and will utilize it to look for space debris. NSO will be responsible for contracting out the renovation and maintaining the facility during NASA's use. The Cloudcroft facility is ideal for their experiments. It is a very dark location and the telescope building and pier appear excellent for their application. NASA expects to install the telescope in the next 6 months and stay as long as 5 years. Eventually, they hope to relocate the telescope to an equatorial site. Rex Hunter
