Farewell to Matt Johns (1Sep94) (from Director's Office, NOAO Newsletter No. 39, 1 September 1994) Matt Johns has left NOAO to tackle his next challenge. He had come from the MDM Observatory to NOAO at the start of 1989 to assume the responsibilities of WIYN Telescope Project Manager. During the course of the next five and a half years, his conscientious management was key to bringing the telescope structure, optics and buildings together on schedule and on budget. Matt's thorough competence and unassuming manner inspired the well deserved confidence of the WIYN Scientific Advisory Committee, the WIYN Board, and his scientific and management colleagues in all the partner institutions. The WIYN telescope is clearly well on its way to meeting its scientific performance goals. We are grateful to Matt for a job well done, and wish him every success in his efforts with the Magellan Project. Matt can take just pride in his legacy of the two best imaging telescopes on Kitt Peak. Richard Green, Caty Pilachowski, Sidney Wolff
