The KCl Beamsplitter and Software Plans

The KCl beamsplitter, damaged back in September, has now been
replaced.  The new unit was installed during the last week of April (as
this is being written), and will, we expect, prove to be acceptable.
We have thus recovered the far-infrared (out to 20 um) capabilities of
the FTS.

We are currently reviewing the status of the available FTS data
reduction software.  At this time we have several different file
formats and a rather convoluted path through the system.  In order to
consolidate the software and ease maintenance problems, we are
contemplating supporting only FITS format files, and embedding the
software system within an Xwindow and IRAF environment.  Users who wish
