1993 Summer Research Assistants (1Dec92) (from the Director's Office, NOAO Newsletter No. 32, 1 December 1992) NOAO plans to offer a number of research assistant positions during the summer of 1993 as part of the NOAO Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Site Program funded by the NSF. Assistants will carry out collaborative research with staff scientists on topics ranging from the nature and origin of solar and stellar activity to galaxies and cosmology. To qualify for the program, an applicant must be an undergraduate student, a U.S. citizen, and demonstrate a strong commitment to a career in astronomy and astrophysics. Students may apply for positions at NOAO facilities in Tucson, Arizona, or at the NSO/Sacramento Peak, New Mexico facility. Please note that undergraduate students who will complete their senior year of study before fall 1993 are not eligible to apply. Positions are normally full-time for 12 weeks between May and September. Salaries are based on academic standing and range from $237 to $306 per week. In addition, NOAO pays round trip, air coach travel within the 50 states, the details of which will be covered at the time of appointment.
