Arrival of Research Associate Andrew Layden (1Dec92) (from CTIO, NOAO Newsletter No. 32, 1 December 1992) The most recent post-doctoral research associate to take a position at CTIO is Andy Layden, who is just finishing up his thesis at Yale University under the supervision of Robert Zinn. Layden will assume the three-year appointment around the end of November. He is no stranger to CTIO, having completed many of the observations for his thesis from Tololo. Layden's interests have focused on the metallicities and kinematics of RR Lyrae stars, especially the determination of the spatial, abundance, and kinematic distributions of the local RR Lyrae population. While at CTIO, he plans to investigate questions of halo and disk formation and their relative chronologies by using RR Lyraes as probes of the thick disk and halo of the Galaxy. Bob Williams
