Kitt Peak National Observatory Open House Oct 8 2011
The Open House for members of the Tohono O'odham Nation was a huge success. Temperatures were in the mid 50's during the daytime, but that didn't stop the hundreds of people that flocked to Kitt Peak from across the Nation. There were several food and craft vendors, basket and traditional dancers, a live band, and activities for children. Thanks to all of the downtown staff and mountain employees who worked the event! We couldn't have made any of this happen without your help!!
It all started with a bus ride.....

And a LOT of planning!

Bring in a live band....

Bring on the Dancers....

And have some really cool telescope stuff for EVERYONE!

Yes, the summit really was busy Saturday night!

2011 Astronomy Camp for Kids
Tohono O'odham students had a special opportunity this summer to attend ASTRONOMY CAMP. Students in the camp spent a week living and working together with staff members to explore astronomy, science, technology, math and engineering. Activities included nighttime observing and daytime hands-on activities, hikes, and tours. The camp is for students ages 12 through 15, and ran from June 3-9 and June 22-30.
