Updates to the September 2000 Mosaic-1 Manual
Heidi Schweiker and Buell Jannuzi have updated the
manual for MOSAIC-1. The new version can be found here. In this new verion the following items have
been updated.
- New Arcon and Nexus power cycling procedures at the 4meter. This link (readable
from inside NOAO domain) details how one can access the power-control for
the ARCONS via telnet rather than having to bring the telescope over to the
annex in order to cycle the power.
- Current versions of available software
- A DDS4 Dat drive is now available at the 0.9m
- In August 2003 a new flat field screen was installed at the 4meter. New
dome flat exposure times can be found here.
- Instructions for printing at the 4meter from your laptop can be found here. Note, this site can only be accessed from within NOAO
- In September 2004 the Mosaic control computers at the 4meter were rearranged and upgraded: the Data Capture Agent (DCA) has been transferred from the computer pecan to tan, an additional comptuer nutmeg is available for data reductions, and rush's physical location has been moved from the control room to the computer and is accessed using VNC viewer. While control of Mosaic remains mostly the same there are some changes worth noting:
- After logging into tan, select Start Interfaces for MOSAIC CCD to start the DCA, VNC viewer window to Rush and Ximtool-alt. You can alternatively start each window independently by selecting them from the background menu on tan.
- Rush (Arcon control computer) is now displayed on tan using VNC viewer software. Since rush is no longer physically in the control room, in order to reboot rush you will need to type reboot-rush from an exterm window on rush.
- Ending an Arcon session will kill your current DCA on tan. Remember to restart the DCA (fromthe background menu on tan) after restarting the Arcon session.
- Only image display programs (Ximtool or DS9) should be run on tan's right-most monitor (tan:0.2). This in an 8-bit display - if other programs are started here there will be problems with allocation of colors in the display window.
- DVD-R and CD writers are now available on tan and nutmeg.
- An updated list of taping devices and their names can be found here.
-
- A common problem has arrisen in writing tapes using mscwfits. If you are having problems see the Common Taping Problems web page.
