AVAILABLE SOFTWARE

The following software is available for use at the observer's home institution as an aid in preparation for the observing run.

• -- Spectrograph Configuration Software

  This program allows the user to model the spectrograph configuration for optimization of the spectral setup. The routine is written in FORTRAN and is easily transportable to various computers.

• -- Assignment Program

  The user will need this routine in order to properly assign the available fibers onto the target objects. The program is a combination of both FORTRAN and C (a library called ). The C component currently requires a Unix environment on a Sun computer.

  This is the most important program for observing run preparation. The user should obtain this program several weeks prior to the observing run in order to have sufficient time for determining and optimizing the fiber assignments.

• -- Hydra Simulator

  A Hydra simulator is available that allows the user to view the assignments and practice operation of the instrument. The programming is written in C and TK. It currently requires a Sun workstation running OpenWindows for the graphics.
