About the Library


Services

    Mission: The NOAO Library supports the mission of NOAO by
    • facilitating access to electronic information through its webpages, with links to information sources and news items on astronomy
    • maintaining and circulating a physical collection of books and journals
    • providing access to electronic journals
    • locating and obtaining journal articles and books
    • supply reference assistance to aid in research endeavors
    • making available public computers and printer
    • offering areas for quiet study and for collaborative meetings
    • preserving the history of NOAO through its archival collections
    • compiling lists of publications by NOAO Scientific Staff and lists of refereed journal articles that use NOAO telescope data
    Statistics: This fiscal year, the library has
    • filled 397 reference requests
    • circulated 311 books
    • processed 463 journals
    • cataloged 151 books
    • been used 619 times by individuals conducting research (the library is open 24 hours/day; this number represents research use during the approx. 25 hours/week librarian is present)
