Helmut Abt took test exposures of star HR7306 in September 1973 in order to assess the efficiency of the newly completed coude feed telescope relative to its `host', the 84-inch (now 2.1-meter) telescope. This unique combination of a dedicated telescope and a high-dispersion spectrograph has produced many scientific insights (and even papers) over nearly three decades. See the article in the NOAO March 2001 newsletter (PDF format only).
