Dr. Don Hall (left) and Dr. Steve Ridgway in the observing room for the Kitt Peak Mayall 4-meter telescope's Fourier Transform Spectrograph. Red laser light traces the optical path through the instrument. This pioneering instrument was only recently superseded, after many years of reliable service, by the Phoenix spectrograph.
