Technical assistant Bill Binkert is seen here checking cables on the Mayall 4-meter telescope at Kitt Peak. He is working on the cable junction boxes for the secondary mirror. People sometimes forget that an observatory requires many more specialities than just astronomers, who typically make up fewer than ten percent of an observatory staff. In fact, since observatories are usually isolated, they require most of the support needs of a small town, leading to many `careers in astronomy' that are not officially astronomy.
