The interior of the room containing the Fourier Transform Spectrograph, an early and very innovative infrared spectrograph used at the Mayall 4-meter telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson, Arizona. Photograph by Mark Hanna, 1990. This pioneering instrument was only recently superseded, after many years of reliable service, by the Phoenix spectrograph.
