WIYN Images: Galaxies (all sorts)
Galaxies are large groupings of millions to hundreds of billions of stars. Some also contain large amounts of gas and dust from which new stars are still being formed. Galaxies are classified based on their appearance into broad categories such as spirals, ellipticals, and irregulars, as well as several narrower subcategories.
