NOAO offers the opportunity to conduct major survey programs of up to 3 years duration. Up to 20% of the observing time available through NOAO may be allocated to Survey Programs.
From time to time, special observing opportunities become available to the community, often with unique submission processes, policies, and deadlines. Examples include Keck/NIRSPEC time that was available to the Gemini Community in 2000-2001 and SPIREX/Abu observations performed at the South Pole in 1999.
The National Solar Observatory has observing facilities at both Kitt Peak (NSO/KP) and Sacramento Peak (NSO/SP). Forms, deadlines and policies differ from those for NOAO nighttime facilities. Please see the NSO website for details.
