The title "Friend of MONSOON" is bestowed upon those people who wish to become involved in the community of users of the MONSOON technology. This honor allows the friend access to the detailed source information pertaining to MONSOON under the open source agreement.
To reach this information, potential friends will need to read and acknowledge the open source license agreement by which the technology is released. Once this has been done, friends will have free access to the inner sanctums of the MONSOON user community.
There you are be able to download the sources and engineering notes for the hardware, software, firmware, and mechanical details of MONSOON. In the near future it is hoped to set up a forum within the sanctum to provide a community communication medium and allow frank interchange of ideas, questions, bug fixes, and the like to take place. It is hoped that by this method the time and effort required to move from 'go' to 'whoa' concerning the implementation of MONSOON will be significantly shortened by friendly community participation.
NOAO reserves the right to moderate the community forum activity in order to filter the content to that apropriate for the purpose of MONSOON development.
We encourage community members to modify existing designs of MONSOON to better suit their individual requirements, and to return these new designs to the community to enrich and mature the MONSOON technology for other friends to use in the future.
If you do decide to access the technical archives and have an inclination to become a user of or contributor to the technology, then please send me an email (pmoore@noao.edu) telling me of your intended use and level of interest so that we can be more aware of your needs to better serve them !
