1. Introduction
This SDN is intended to serve as somewhat of a “catch-all” by including a number of notes generally related to manipulation and handling of the instrument, both for operation at the telescope and for maintenance, repair, and alignment. The individual design notes are listed below by category.
2. Instrument Handling
Handling of the instrument as a whole, including installation at the telescope and manipulation within the Gemini facility, is described in SDN014.01, Instrument Handling.
3. Instrument Access
The design of the instrument must facilitate access for alignment,
maintenance, and repair. Details of alignment procedures are not covered SDN014
and subsidiary design notes (see instead SDN003.20 and 003.21), nor are
detailed service procedures (documentation TBD. However, and overview of access
requirements for these purposes is given in SDN014.02, Instrument Access and
Service. The same design note provides a summary of the design as it relates to
instrument access. Requirements for handling of major mechanical and optical
assemblies are also discussed.
