Project ASTRO Applications
NOAO is seeking amateur and professional astronomers, advanced astronomy students, and teachers in schools and community organizations to participate in Project ASTRO, an exciting program developed by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific that expanded to Tucson in the fall of 1996. Project ASTRO matches astronomers with local teachers and community educators who want to enrich their astronomy and science teaching. The program, emphasizes a hands-on, activities-based approach to excite students from 3rd grade thru high school about astronomy and helps them to think and act like scientists. Project ASTRO forges a partnership by taking advantage of the teacher’s expertise in the classroom and coupling it with the astronomer’s passion for astronomy. Astronomers agree to visit their school or community center at least four times during the academic year to build a solid relationship with teachers and students.
