The Science Data Management (SDM) Archive Manager is responsible for managing the SDM operational systems for data management, pipeline processing, archiving and user support.  Responsibilities include the related planning, budgeting, tracking, and control activities and interfacing with the host-site technical support staff.  The SDM Archive Manager supervises the activities of the SDM Operations group, and interacts with SDM staff, Computer Information Services (CIS) staff, institutional partners, and outside contractors and vendors.  In addition to these duties and responsibilities, the SDM Archive Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation of the SDM help desk.  The SDM Archive Manager provides archive and portal usage reports for management and input to the SDM project planning.

Primary functions include:

·         Responsible for the overall day-to-day management and operation of SDM data systems, including mountaintop data capture, data transport, replication and archiving, and data access and data analysis support for users.

·         Responsible for all aspects of daily infrastructure operations, including operational support, infrastructure development, strategic direction, budgetary oversight, and coordination of onsite support teams, vendors, and contractors.

·         Responsible for the creation of test plans and test cases for the Operations test environment as well as deployment plans into the production environment.  Works closely with SDM software development teams to coordinate development and deployment plans.

·         Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and leadership of the operations staff, including task assignment, development, and training.

Requires 8 years of applicable experience in progressively complex software systems deployment and testing, and in hardware/software planning and integration of complex systems.  At least 5 years of supervisory experience.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/IT, Physical Science, Engineering, Math or a related field, or equivalent is required; master’s degree preferred.  Training in effective communications and management techniques is desirable.
