The National Solar Observatory is a world-class research facility in the mountains of southern New Mexico.  Our facility has an immediate opening for a Senior Electronics Technician to provide support in the maintenance of the electronics systems for the Dunn Solar Telescope and associated instrumentation. NSO offers an excellent compensation/benefit package.

 

The person filling this position will be responsible for the maintenance of the electronics systems for the telescope and associated instrumentation.  Required skills:  Experience in trouble-shooting and maintaining high reliability analog servo and digital systems and subsystems, using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other standard equipment for trouble-shooting electronics, and using electronic schematics to trouble-shoot systems.  Desired skills:  Experience with real time instrument control, servo control, motors and motor controllers, A/D – D/A converters, synchros, CAMAC, VME, CCD cameras, PCB layout, CAD, and advanced soldering techniques.

 

Minimum qualifications:  An associate degree in electronic technology or related technical field and at least five years of technical experience. Astronomy, IT, and mechanical skills would be a plus.  Resumes accepted until the position is filled.
