Medical Benefits

Medical insurance coverage is provided to regular full-time employees and regular part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week.

  • Tucson, AZ -- CIGNA

  • Chile -- Cigna International

Spouses and unmarried dependent children under the age of 19 (or up to age 25, if full-time student) are also eligible. NOAO pays 100% of the monthly premium for full-time employee coverage, and employees pay a portion of the dependent premium for covered dependents. Eligible part-time employees pay a portion of their own and their dependent premiums.

Dental Benefits

Dental insurance coverage is provided to regular full-time employees and regular part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week.

  • Worldwide -- MetLife -- PDP Indemnity Plan

Vision Benefit-  Each NOAO member may utilize any Ophthalmologist or Optometrist and receive an Eye Exam annually for $20.00 co-payment (benefit is limited to one exam annually per member). The member would need to make full payment at the time of exam and then complete a CIGNA Medical Claim form for reimbursement of 100% less $20.00 co-payment.

Retirement Savings Plans

Money Purchase Pension Plan--401(a) funded entirely by AURA.
  • 10% of employee's base salary is contributed bi-weekly.
  • 100% immediate vesting.

Tax Sheltered Account--403(b) funded by employee contributions.

  • Employees can contribute up to 100% of their salary or $15,500 in 2008.
  • Employees over age 50 can contribute an additional $5,000 as a "catch-up" provision.

Deferred Compensation Plan--457(b) funded by employee contributions.

  • Eligibility applies to fulltime employees who are considered "highly compensated" ($105,000 for 2008).
  • Employees must be contributing the maximum permissible amount for your age to the 403b plan
    • $15,000 if you are under age of 50 OR $20,500 if you are age 50 or over.

Life and Disability Insurance

   Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance--Employer Paid

  • Full-time regular staff: 1 x annual base salary up to $250,000; $40,000 minimum coverage.
  • Part-time regular staff: 1 x annual base salary up to $250,000; $20,000 minimum coverage.

   Optional Term Life Insurance

  • Purchase from $10,000 up to $500,000 or seven times employee's salary in $10,000 increments
  • Purchase 50% of employee amount for the spouse
  • Purchase $10,000 for each eligible child

   Voluntary Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance

  • Purchase from $10,000 up to $500,000 or seven times salary in $10,000 increments
  • Purchase 50% of employee amount for the spouse

   Long Term Disability Insurance--Employer Paid

      In the event you become disabled for over 180 days, the
      LTD plan will provide regular full-time employees with the
      following benefits after a one-year waiting period:

  • Domestic Employees--60% of basic monthly earnings*
  • International Employees--662/3% of basic monthly earnings*

      *Maximum benefit of $6,000/month

Tuition Reimbursement

NOAO and NSO support work-related education and training for regular, full-time employees by refunding 100% of out-of-pocket tuition costs for grades of A or B and 50% for a grade of C. Reimbursement is limited to six credits per semester. Approval must be obtained in advance of registering. Tuition refund applications are available in HR or online.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Flexible spending accounts are a way of making pre-tax payroll deductions for either dependent care or non-reimbursed health expenses. FSA claim forms are available in HR or online.
