Updated Guiding Instructions for the New Temporary Guide Cameras - January 2007
In October 2006 new SBIG guide cameras were installed while the original guide cameras were sent out for repair. These SBIG cameras are also controlled through MaximDL and operate the same as the original cameras. The only differences are in connecting to the cameras and switching between the North and South cameras.
When you first bring up MaximDL and bring up the CCD control window the first thing that should appear is the Setup Tab. On this tab at the left you should see MAIN CCD CAMERA with a SETUP button. If you click that SETUP button you'll get to the screen where you switch between cameras (this is the same as before). The top box in this window should note something CAMERA MODEL. This should be set to SBIG Universal (you shouldn't need to change that).
Before when changing between cameras you'd select flicam1 or flicam2 under CONNECT TO on the same SETUP tab. Now there are many selections under that CONNECT TO menu. The bottom 2 selections (something like ST-402) are your South and North cameras in that order - the second to last is the South camera and the last is the North camera.
Also previously you had to change the MANUAL CALIBRATION ANGLE when switching cameras. Instead now you'll need to change the FLIP HORIZONTAL or FLIP VERTICLE. I believe it's on the SETTINGS tab you'll see an OPTIONS menu (click the arrow). On this OPTIONS menu you should see either the FLIP HORIZONTAL or FLIP VERTICLE selected (only 1 should be selected at any time). When you change cameras change which one is selected. Nominally if you're using the South camera you should select FLIP HORIZONTAL and with the North camera you should select FLIP VERTICLE. However if you find that with these settings it anti-guides you should flip in the other direction.
